Addressing the members of village level defense committees under the war against drugs campaign by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian appreciated the action taken by the Punjab Police against drug smugglers and said that the Punjab Police has registered about 8 FIRs since March 1, 2025.
He said that it is only with the support of your people that the police has achieved so much success in recovering drugs. He said that the police have broken the chain of drug supply and now there is a need to reduce the demand for drugs, so it is very important to get the people who are addicted treated. He said that the Punjab government has opened drug de-addiction centers in every district and there is a big drug de-addiction center with a capacity of 700 beds in Amritsar, so all of you should consider any person who is addicted to drugs in your neighborhood or street and bring them for treatment. We will treat them free of cost and put them on their feet. He said that the police have recovered a large quantity of drugs during this campaign, which includes about three and a half kilograms of heroin, about 10 thousand kilograms of post, 160 kilograms of opium, ganja, charas, drugs and other items. The boys said that drug addiction cannot be eradicated without your cooperation, so all of you should support the administration, police and government in this campaign so that we can make Punjab drug free.
Speaking on the occasion, Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO patted the backs of the people of the border area and said that now your fear has started persecuting drug smugglers. The way you have raised a ship against drug smugglers in collaboration with the police makes it clear that the game of drug smuggling will not continue for long. He said that the administration has completely destroyed the properties built by drug smugglers with the money of two figures. He said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has set a deadline of May 31 to make Punjab drug free and if your cooperation continues in this manner, then the day is not far when Punjab will eradicate this scourge of drugs. Speaking on the occasion, Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar shared with the people the action taken by the Amritsar Police against drug smugglers so far and said that we will keep the information you provide confidential and take such action that the drug smugglers will repent from this act in future. Deputy Commissioner Amritsar Mrs. Sakshi Sahni sought the cooperation of Village Level Defense Committee members, councilors and panchayats to make the district drug-free and appealed to the people to come forward to get the drug addicts treated. On this occasion, District Police Chief Maninder Singh said that with your cooperation, we have broken the chain of drug smuggling from the border belt and now we need to get the drug addicts treated. Apart from this, if anyone is still smuggling drugs, then give us information about it and we will bring him to justice.
