Chandigarh, 23rd August 2021: A review meeting of Standing Committees of Administrator’s Advisory Council (on transport) held today under the Chairmanship of Sh. Dharam Pal,IAS,Adviser,UT Chandigarh in the presence Sh. Mandip Singh Brar,IAS, Deputy Commissioner-cum- Secretary Transport with Ms.Keshni Anand Arora, Former Chief Secretary, Government of Haryana,Sh. Kapil Setia, Chief Architect,Chandigarh Administration and Sh. C.B. Ojha , Chief Engineer,Chandigarh Administration were also present.
The meeting progressed with the discussion of various subjects like making the roads of City Beautiful free from animal propelled carts, regulation of auto rickshaws and making an inventory of the owners and drivers. On these issues, the Council apprised that the State Transport Authority has completed the process of regulating autos with Mohali and the process has already begun with Panchkula. It was also shared that as per the decision of Govt. of India, STA registering only E-Rickshaw / E-Auto for promoting of E-vehicles in future.
The Council was also apprised about the notification of Parking Policy that caters to all parking issues in the City. In response to the making Public transport more accessible to people, it was shared that the Intelligent transportation system has already been implemented.
The issue regarding Taxation and Fee amongst tri-city has also been discussed. Accrodingly, the Govt. of Haryana has exempted the State Road Tax (SRT) tax of CTU buses plying on local routes in tri-city area of Haryana i.e. Panchkula. However, the reply is still awaited from the Govt. of Punjab.
To improve the road connectivity between the Panchkula and Chandigarh, it was shared that the work of improvement & Widening of road for providing connectivity with alternate road to Panchkula i.e. Junction 39 to CTU Workshop and from CTU Workshop upto Railway Road is under process of allotment. Further, the survey has been completed along Railway-Line and High Level Bridge.
