Mohali, ( Mahinder Pal ) : Pharmacy Department of Aryans Group of Colleges, Rajpura, Near Chandigarh organized an interactive session on “Drug Discovery through Natural Products” to celebrate World Pharmacist Day under the theme “Safe and effective medicines for all” at its Campus. Dr. V. Kapoor, Former Chairman & Dean Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Students of B. Pharmacy & D. Pharmacy of Aryans Group participated in various activities including Poster making, Slogan & Essay Writing, etc.

Dr. V. Kapoor enlightened the students about the Medicinal Plants and Natural Products. He said that the chemistry of natural compounds is relatively unexplored and represents a vast resource for new medicines to combat major diseases such as cancer, AIDS or malaria.
Natural product compounds are the source of numerous therapeutic agents. Recent progress to discover drugs from natural product sources has resulted in compounds that are being developed to treat cancer, resistant bacteria and viruses and immunosuppressive disorders. In many instances, the discovery of a novel natural product serves as a tool to better understand targets and pathways in the disease process.
A skit was performed by the students on “Safe and effective medicines for all” depicting the role of Pharmacists to assure the same.
