Punjab Sees Reduction in Electricity Tariffs Thanks to Bhagwant Singh Mann Government – ETO
Amritsar, March 29: Kuljit Singh
- In a significant move, the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission has reduced electricity tariffs, making power more affordable for all Punjabis. This development is a result of the people-friendly policies implemented by the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
Punjab Power Minister Harbhajan Singh E.T.O. revealed that the commission’s decision will not increase fixed expenses for consumers but will instead lower their bills. The minister explained that the existing three slabs for Domestic Supply (DS) and Non-Residential Supply (NRS) consumers have been merged into two slabs, eliminating any additional financial burden.
Describing Key Benefits for Consumers Mr Harbhajan Singh said that in DS Consumers Those using more than 300 units will pay lower charges, including Rs. 160/month for loads up to 2 kW, Rs. 90/month for loads above 2 kW and up to 7 kW, and Rs. 32/month for loads above 7 kW and up to 20 kW.
In NRS Consumers category Minster told that a discount of 2 paise/unit has been introduced for consumption up to 500 units, with a maximum load of 20 kW. This translates to a reduction of approximately Rs. 110/month for consumers using up to 500 units.
The minister highlighted that a pro-industry tariff policy has been adopted, with no increase in surcharges. A new category with reduced fixed and variable charges has been introduced for single-point supply to residential colonies and cooperative group housing societies.
The Punjab government remains committed to the welfare of electricity consumers, ensuring uninterrupted power supply and continuing the 600 units free electricity scheme.
