On the call of the United Kisan Morcha, hundreds of farm workers staged a dharna in front of the house of Power and Public Works Minister Shri Harbhajan Singh ETO in Jandiala Guru and submitted a memorandum of demands to the Chief Minister of Punjab. The dharna was led by Baldev Singh Saidpur, Lakhbir Singh Nizampura, Dalbir Singh Bedadpur, Bhupinder Singh Tirthpura, Gurdev Singh Varpal, Amarjit Singh Malla, Channan Singh, Sukhdev Singh Sarja etc.

Addressing the gathering on this occasion, comrades Ratan Singh Randhawa, Prabhjit Singh Timmowal, Dharam Singh Dhyanpur, Nirmal Singh Bhinder, Amarjit Singh Chauhan and other leaders said that the present government, which came into existence by imposing a heavy burden on the public, did nothing in the interest of the farmers and laborers, did not make any policy, but like the tenure of previous governments, corruption, drug addiction and loot are rampant. The leaders demanded that the Punjab government should extend canals to every farm, the design of the Moghas should be done according to the opinion of technical experts and the need of water, river water issues should be resolved according to the riparian principle, arrangements should be made for water recharge, canals and rivers should be built, polluted water should be stopped, seeds that consume less water should be made available, the entire debt of agricultural laborers should be waived, the families of people who commit suicide should be given Rs 10 lakh, cooperative movement highways should be strengthened, the price of acquired land should be given according to the market, Attari Wagah and Hussainiwala Suleimani border should be opened for trade with other countries, a permanent solution should be found for stray cattle and dogs, mobile sample test vans should be arranged. There were demands to ban fake seeds, fertilizers and medicines, stop privatization of the electricity department, give pension of Rs 10,000 per month to every farm laborer after the age of 58, implement government crop insurance scheme, and get the form registered. The protesting farmers and laborers should be taken back, the new education policy should be canceled. In the absence of the minister, Market Committee Gahri Mandi chairman Shanakh took the memorandum of demands and promised to deliver it to the Chief Minister of Punjab.
